Housing runs from postwar capes and ranches to lakefront homes and large newer houses, with Route 35 carrying the township's retail. There is no single Ocean Township house, so there is no single Ocean Township system.
Ocean Township fills the ground between Route 18 and the small shore boroughs of Deal, Allenhurst and Interlaken, with Deal Lake's 158 acres on its southeastern edge. Wanamassa is postwar capes and ranches with lakefront streets on Deal Lake; Oakhurst mixes older homes with large new construction; Wayside is 1970s-to-1990s colonials and split-levels on wooded lots toward Tinton Falls; and West Allenhurst sits between them. Route 35 carries most of its retail and office buildings.
