Oceanport juts into the Shrewsbury River between Branchport Creek and Oceanport Creek, with Monmouth Park Racetrack at one end and the former Fort Monmouth at the other. Its housing is largely waterfront and near-waterfront capes, colonials and raised homes, many rebuilt or elevated after Hurricane Sandy, and the water is both the borough's appeal and its main security variable.
Oceanport is a peninsula into the Shrewsbury River, bordered by Branchport Creek on the Long Branch side and Oceanport Creek toward Little Silver, with Blackberry Bay and Port-au-Peck on the water and Monmouth Park Racetrack on the inland side. The western end of the borough was part of Fort Monmouth; the borough hall now sits on the former post, and new housing is going up around it. After Hurricane Sandy, many homes on the creeks and bay were raised. The result is a housing stock of capes, colonials and elevated waterfront homes where the rear elevation faces open water.
