Sea Girt was carved from Commodore Stockton's estate in 1917 and still reads as one: wide lots, substantial single-family homes, the 1896 lighthouse at Ocean Avenue and Beacon Boulevard, and water on three sides — the Atlantic, Wreck Pond to the north and Stockton Lake to the south. Prices rank among the highest in the state and a large share of owners are seasonal, so a system here has to cover a lot of house with no one home to notice a problem.
