What makes securing a home different in Hazlet?
Hazlet grew fast after the Garden State Parkway opened, filling former farmland between Route 35 and the Bayshore with split-levels, ranches and Cape Cods. Those homes share the same weak points — ground-level garage entries, sliding doors onto rear yards, basements that flood — and a system has to be designed around them rather than a generic floor plan.
Hazlet sits between the Garden State Parkway at Exit 117 and the Raritan Bayshore, with Route 35 and Route 36 running through it. Nearly all of its housing went up in the two decades after the Parkway opened: split-levels, ranches and Cape Cods in subdivisions off Middle Road, Bethany Road and Union Avenue,. Those homes were built with single-pane sliders, attached garages and below-grade family rooms, and the NJ Transit station on the North Jersey Coast Line empties many of them from morning to evening.
