Riverdale is the northeastern corner of Morris County, a small borough pinned between the Pequannock and Pompton Rivers, Route 23 and two I-287 interchanges. Since the early 2000s, townhome, condominium and apartment communities have gone up on its hillsides, while the original neighborhood of capes and colonials near the river and the Glenburn estate remains. Shared walls and association rules on one side of town, river-adjacent basements on the other.
Riverdale is the northeasternmost two square miles of Morris County, pinned between the Pequannock and Pompton Rivers on the Passaic County line, with Route 23 running through it and I-287 exits 52 and 53 inside the borough. That highway access reshaped the town: since the early 2000s, townhome, condominium and apartment communities have gone up on the hillsides and the borough's housing count has nearly doubled, while big-box retail and distribution buildings fill the Route 23 frontage. The older Riverdale — capes and colonials on the flats near the rivers, the Glenburn estate — sits closest to the water, where basements take on the Pompton's overflow in a bad storm.
