South Bound Brook occupies 0.74 square miles on the south bank of the Delaware and Raritan Canal, with the Raritan River just beyond, Main Street as its one through road and Queen's Bridge carrying it across to Bound Brook. The housing is compact and old: single-family and two-family homes from the early 1900s on narrow lots with side doors and detached garages, plus the townhomes built on the former GAF site along the canal. The 1999 Hurricane Floyd flood put two to three feet of water on parts of Main Street near the canal, so the lowest blocks carry flood risk along with the usual close-quarters security issues.
